I bought a digital blue led voltmeter on Ebay to display the voltage of my golf cart’s main battery pack. It has a red and black power in, which will be powered by a 12v deep cycle battery that runs my accessories like lights and stereo, and a white wire to measure the 48v battery pack voltage. The wiring diagram shows that you are supposed to connect the black negative wire to the negative of both the power source my 12v accessory battery and the voltage to be measured my golf cart’s 48v battery pack. My question is- isn’t this going to cause some problems with both sets of circuits if they share the same negative? Will is casue 48v to infiltrate my 12v system and fry everything, or will it be okay since the circuit is not complete? What about the seperate charging systems they use?

With the Volt meter you will have to be careful you dont create a short circuit, as the only voltage drop your going to see would be from a 12v and a Ground rail, but directly hooking those up is going to cause issues. Dont know how you will get around that, maybe some very tricky use of diodes.
If your motherboard offers voltage checking points MSI typically do this then you could just directly solder the leads to that. Ammeter will be simple enough to do, just make sure its not so high a resistance to cause issues a significant voltage drop. I also needed to know what a safe level was in order to see the actual draw or lack of. Some guys use a dead man switch attached to the battery post instead of jumper wires. Sometimes these draw tests can take hours to complete, depending on what module you’re looking at and it’s length of time to power down Sleep Mode. I find it not only awkward, but a little confusing to have all these devices on an adjacent work table or balancing precariously on the edge of the fender.
The other thing you need to do the draw test properly is the correct values for each systems parasitic draw. I find it a lot easier to watch the meter values dropping off to their sleep mode when I have a pretty good idea as to which module it is. All of which is time consuming, involves lots of connections that have to be working correctly, as well as a lot of patience on my part. I really would like to have a way to at least isolate the offending circuit fast, efficiently, and accurately without all these hassles.
